The FA Cup Quest: Let the Journey Begin!

Alright Gunners, it's that time of year again! The magic of the FA Cup is upon us, and our quest to add a record-extending 15th triumph to our trophy cabinet kicks off this Sunday. We're heading down to Fratton Park to face Championship side Portsmouth. And here's a stat to warm your hearts: we haven't lost to Portsmouth in a staggering 67 years, remaining unbeaten in our last 22 meetings! That's right, our last defeat against them was way back in 1958. So, while they'll be looking to cause an upset, the omens are definitely in our favour. It's a chance for us to get our cup campaign rolling and, hopefully, start building momentum towards another Wembley day.

Given the busy festive period and a run of four away games across different competitions, coach Mikel Arteta is expected to look at resting some key players. However, there is some very positive news on the injury front! It looks like our German King,Ā Kai Havertz, might be making his long-awaited return to the pitch.

The coach sounded optimistic, noting Kai has been training well and coping brilliantly with an increased load. If all goes to plan, he could be in the squad, and a cup tie is the perfect place to start a slow, careful reintegration. With Viktor Gyokeres and Gabriel Jesus also available, there is no pressure to rush him back. A slow reintegration is key, and a cup tie is the perfect place to start. Fingers crossed we see him out there!

Let's go get that 15th!

January Transfer Window: City’s attacking moves and Arsenal's Defensive Interest

The January transfer window is open and our title rivals have added another attacking signing to their ranks. Manchester City have splashed out a hefty £64 million to bring Antoine Semenyo to the Etihad from Bournemouth.

The fact that City have paid such a significant fee, fending off interest from other top clubs, tells you everything you need to know about his talent. He's two-footed, direct, and has that ability to carry the ball and create something out of nothing – qualities that Pep Guardiola clearly values. His arrival at City could add another layer of unpredictability to their attack, especially as they've been looking to evolve their game. It's a move that certainly makes them even more formidable, and it's a reminder that the pressure is well and truly on for us to keep delivering week in, week out.

Following Semenyo’s departure, the whispers are getting louder thatĀ Bournemouth are keen on a loan move for our young talent, Ethan Nwaneri, until the end of the season. However, from what we are gathering,Ā Ethan himself isn't rushing to pack his bags.Ā He is reportedly content to stay put, learn from being around the current title challenge, and bide his time. While being part of a title-chasing squad is invaluable experience, opportunities for him toĀ actually playĀ are going to be scarce given the depth of our squad.

The question remains: what is best for his development—a title challenge seat or regular first-team minutes elsewhere? For now, it seems Ethan’s preference is to stay and learn, but this is a situation Mikel Arteta and the club will be weighing up carefully.

Shifting focus to our own transfer targets, our long-standing interest in Crystal Palace’s captain,Ā Marc Guehi, is still very much alive.

Reports suggest we have been in contact with his representatives. While a January move for a player of his calibre and contract situation at Palace might be complicated, it is understood we are looking at him as a serious option, potentially for the summer transfer window.

It's a bit of a complicated situation, isn't it? He was so close to a move to Liverpool last summer, even completing part of a medical, only for Palace to pull the plug. Now, with his contract running down, he's free to talk to foreign clubs about pre-contracts from January.

Guehi is a seriously impressive defender—calm, strong, and an excellent reader of the game. He's been a rock for Palace, even chipping in with goals and assists. The stats show he's right up there with the best in the league for duels and aerial battles – even giving our own Gabriel a run for his money in some categories!

If we were to make a move, it would certainly raise questions about the futures of some of our current centre-backs. Let me know your thoughts!
